The Modentrée Weekly Note
Issue 07
Paris

Fashion month is basically knocking on the door and the industry is doing that thing where it pretends to be calm about it. Except this week? Absolutely not. A Met retrospective imploded, Off-White lost its creative director, a Belgian designer just took home the LVMH Prize, and Paris is already acting like fashion week started. Let’s get into it.
THE MET SAID: ACTUALLY… NEVER MIND
So, “John Galliano: Horizons” is officially dead. The Met and Galliano are calling it a “mutual decision,” Anna Wintour called his withdrawal “courageous,” and everyone is politely pretending this was a calm, considered outcome. Be serious. Once the backlash started, this exhibition was never going to just be about the clothes. A Galliano retrospective at the Met, tied to the Met Gala, would have been a very loud institutional stamp of approval – and that was always going to be the headline. His Margiela years? Genuinely brilliant. The work deserves its place in fashion history. But turning the redemption arc into a full Met coronation was always going to be… a choice. Anyway. We have our answer.
OFF-WHITE JUST LOST ITS VIRGIL SUCCESSOR !
Ib Kamara is out at Off-White after four years in the creative director seat – the second person to take on the job after Virgil Abloh. The exit is being called amicable, but the bigger question is what Off-White actually wants to be now. Kamara brought his own language to an impossible post-Virgil era, and with the brand now under Bluestar Alliance, the next move is going to say a lot. Because right now? The identity crisis is showing.

JULIE KEGELS JUST TOOK THE BAG !
Belgian designer Julie Kegels just won the 2026 LVMH Prize – €400K, a year of mentorship, and officially one of fashion’s names to watch. Her work plays with femininity, identity and the tension between who we are and who we perform. Smart, strange, and very current. Big one for her. Congrats Julie !
